In a rare move, the Wolf Pack has fined one of its coaches.

Three days after football coach Brian Polian received two unsportsmanlike penalties during his team's 44-20 loss to Arizona on Saturday, Nevada has fined the third-year coach $10,000.

In a statement, athletic director Doug Knuth said he supports Polian's guidance of the program but that the coach's sideline behavior was not within the values of Wolf Pack athletics.

I believe Coach Polian is moving the football program in the right direction, academically, athletically and socially," Knuth said in a news release. "Unfortunately, his sideline behavior and interaction with officials " regardless of being right or wrong about officiating decisions " is not aligned with the values of Wolf Pack athletics or the university. These sanctions send a strong message to Brian, and to our fans, our university and conference administration, and to officials working our games, that we do not tolerate unsportsmanlike behavior.

We want Brian to continue building the program in a positive fashion and stand with him as he makes adjustments. I am excited about the future of the program, and look forward to seeing changes which make us feel increasingly proud of the Wolf Pack football program."

Per the release, Knuth and Polian said they would have no further comment on the matter, nor would any other member of the Wolf Pack. In addition to the fine, Polian is subject to additional reporting to the athletic director and the department will have an administrative presence on the sidelines during games. Polian will face automatic suspension and larger fines for further offenses.
